Refined Details...

Yellow wool boucle coat, belt and tab found at a Seattle thrift store, finished with Japanese silk jacquard binding outlined with gold soutache.   The trim and belt-loops are made from metal braid found at a Paris Flea Market forty years ago.  The large vintage designer buttons are original to the garment.  The deco-style buckle was found at Vashon’s own collectible store, Treasure Island.  Notice the touch of knotted soutache...

Antique French Grain Sack coat, belt and tab from Euro-Linens (the tab stripe is cut from another sac du grain remnant) all bound in a vintage crepe de chine neck-tie discovered at a yard sale in San Diego.  The belt-loops are vintage Japanese Tea Ceremony braid brought back from San Francisco’s JapanTown.  The Bakelite buttons and buckle are Flea Market finds.  Notice the blue and gold decorative button on the belt mid-spine...

Cotton/rayon chenille (reproduction fabric from a San Simeon restoration) coat, belt and tab bound with Celadon silk jacquard, made from a vintage Chinese robe designed expressly for I. Magnin.  The trim and belt-loops are vintage silk ribbon with Cluny lace.  A rhinestone buckle, layered two-tone celluloid button with flower petal cut-work, and a marbleized Hard Plastic button finish the coat.  Notice the button-holes on all the coats are hand-sewn using Silk Twist.  Each button has its own back-button to ensure the tab and coat move naturally with the dog...

Red/orange wool plaid (a flea market find) coat and tab.  Wool Tweed belt and belt-loops cut from a vintage skirt.  Silk crepe de chine vintage neck-tie binding,   another San Diego yard sale find. Butterscotch Bakelite buckle and button and two-tone Celluloid circular stacked button, all found at flea markets.  Notice the strip of soutache down the spine…

The Gala...

I've received some great photographs from PAWSSF’s Director of Development, Marketing and Communication, Cheryl Shiflett, taken at their annual fundraising event, Petchitecture, Fiona and I attended in May at the opulent Palace Hotel. Thank you to Cheryl and all the great folks at PAWSSF for allowing JoeysCoat to participate in the important work they do...so honored.

I also wish to thank Beth Hoffman and Laurie Manuel of Alternative Mortgage Sources, Title Sponsors of the event, who graciously invited Fiona and me along with Dana’s cousin, Gretchen, to share one of their tables (we had the best seats in the house!).

And to my dear friend, Kim Green and handsome Jay Jay, many, many thanks for first telling me about PAWSSF Petchitecture and making this magical evening possible.

Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank Fiona for bringing her Gala manners.  As one of the guests remarked, she was my best accessory!

The Artist and Her Muse...

Today I had the pleasure of uploading JoeysCoat’s latest designs on my eCommerce site,  joeyscoat.com.  If only there was a way to share “up close and personal” with the world, the quality and expertise of my brilliant friend and profoundly talented tailor, Dana Lazare.  Her style and training is classic.  Her designs, inspired.  Her “outside the box” thinking adds just the right eccentricity to each coat making them not only beautiful, but more important, Dana makes them interesting.

Every dog who wears a JoeysCoat is the only dog in the world with that exact coat...what a concept.  And, the dogs owners are being kind to the planet...even better.

Fabric and patterns no longer produced with buttons and buckles no longer manufactured, each individually handcrafted...a dying art at best.

The hunt for these treasures combined with witnessing their transformation is my joy...
